409 E Main is a Llano River house with a long history. Built in 1902 and remodeled many times since, it has worn a lot of styles in its century on the same lot.
Our job here was to quiet things down, not pile on. A darker, more confident touch at the front door. A cleaner one at the kitchen. A steady rhythm in the rooms between. The encaustic tile inside the entryway gave us the cue. Whatever the house had become, it used to be something more specific.
The kitchen is the biggest move. Oversized brass pendants, a deep-blue range hood, arched display cabinets, and a stone island long enough for the whole family. From there the rooms soften. A banquette under a globe pendant, two corduroy chairs in the front sitting room, a fireplace flanked by gray armchairs in the living room. River light does the rest.
